The most blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist is the “source and summit of our faith” (Catechism 1324). Preparing children and young people for their first Holy Communion is critical to all Catholic religious instruction. Generally, we ask children to enroll in a two year process – beginning in the first grade – with the Sacrament being received at seven years of age, while in the second grade. Just prior to receiving first Holy Communion, the children are instructed and guided to begin making regular Sacramental Confession a habit in his/her life.
Also, it is very important that parents realize their responsibility to continue their child’s religious education after he/she receives first Holy Communion. The years of Religious Education following first Holy Communion will build upon each other, readying the child to later receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
After being confirmed, youth are expected to continue in their Faith Formation by regularly attending Holy Trinity’s youth programs. Participation in our youth program is designed to strengthen a young Catholic’s personal relationship with Christ and enable Christian friendships that will last a lifetime.
